CITYPEEK has an update on Baltimore's First Geothermal Hotel opening at the end of August by the Black Olive owners: The Family Spiliadis writes "Many of you have noticed that our project, the Inn at the Black Olive(with the rooftop Olive room and the downstairs market) is getting closer to completion. What many of you may not know is the extent to which this building will be a breakthrough in construction that is good for the environment. There are innovations galore at the new inn, but perhaps the most compelling is the use of geothermal energy to drastically cut the use of non-renewable energy in the new building.
When the project began a decade ago, engineers and architects said it could not be done on a lot this close to sea level. The Spiliadis family pushed and the fruits of their labor are near to paying off. This week the loop filled with water (which harnesses the earth's temperatures to create heating and cooling) went to work in the new building. This will be the first hotel in Baltimore to employ this breakthrough technology. You will be able to dine at the Black Olive and spend a night with a view in a building that lives at peace with the Earth"
Recently Recently Black Olive Executive Chef Pauline Spiliadis was featured in a cookbook called Dishing Up Maryland, by Lucie Snodgras-.www.lucielsnodgrass.net. Among the great variety of food delights with a Maryland identity, Pauline's Rockfish Kabobs in Classic Greek Marinade transports our favorite local fish to a seaside Greek taverna. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
