Prohibition Pops, Boozy, Adult Popsicles Delight

Primary tabs

With rare Napa, CA 80 degree temperatures in February, I have been enjoying happy hour poolside with friends. I was delighted to be invited to sample a delicious, frozen product, just coming on the market-Prohibition Pops. Think of it as Boozy Adult Popsicles, refreshing, small, but packs a huge flavor and a little buzz from 8% alcohol. Developed by hospitality executive, Cornelia Mathis and her husband, Cody, a seasoned mixologist at the famed St. Helena hotspot, Goose & Gander,  Prohibition Pops comes in three flavors:

   1. Bourbon Buck, bourbon with ginger and lime

   2. Flower Power, a mixture of lavender, honey and vodka

   3. Dak 33, a mixture of rum, lime, cane sugar.

The Dak 33 was a terrific blend of tart and sweet, certainly will be a refresher on a hot Summer day.

Why the name, Dak 33? From 2015-2018, the Mathis' owned a bar in Southern Coast of Oregon called Speakeasy 33. Thirty three, as in 1933, is representative of the year Prohibition ended. Yes, In 1933, the 21st Amendment to the Constitution was passed and ratified, ending national Prohibition. After the repeal of the 18th Amendment, some states continued Prohibition by maintaining statewide temperance laws.

"One day we were messing around with cocktails. Daquaris are our favorite drink, and we thought, 'wouldn't it be fun to freeze?,'" states Cornelia.

Now available for pre-orders, the pops should be stocked by middle of March! Napa Valley's Archer Hotel will be seving them by their pool for guests and at specialty food stores, like Sunshine Foods Market and the San Francisco Ferry Wine Merchants.

Prohibition Pops partners with Charbay Distillery, the Karakasevic Family, early pioneers in the modern American artisan distillery movement and who represent 13 generations of Master Distillers, initially in former-Yugoslavia from 1751. Charbay founder, Miles Karakasevic, became the United States’ first Grand Master Distiller in 2010. The title, Grand Master Distiller, is granted to a Distiller who has distilled all four of the major spirits categories: Brandy, Whiskey, Rum and Tequila. Since Tequila must be distilled in Mexico, a rare accolade pinnacle for an artisan distiller to attain.

With the tagline 'Freeze. Slurp. Eat responsibly!', might I sugget pre-ordering from your favorite spcialty retailer asap. They are available 6 in a box and retail around $8-12, a pop.
