Banshee Wines was born in 2009 at a bar in the Dogpatch neighborhood of San Francisco and a few years later opened a tasting room in Sonoma County's Healdsburg. With money borrowed from friends and family, the original founders launched Banshee Wines with eight barrels of coveted Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir. The initial intent was to make wines that tasted like the best California had to offer but were priced so that everyone could enjoy them.

 

I was quite familiar with their Chardonnay and Pinot noir, but never had I tried their sparkling wine until this holiday season. I was most pleasantly surprised with the Banshee Wines Ten of Cups Sparkling Wine from California. I drank it alone, no mixers, and also as a mimosa the following morning. Hey, it was the holiday week.
 
The brand's Ten of Cups, name has roots in tarot card reading. When the tarot deck shows you the Ten of Cups, it symbolizes harmony, joy, and abundance—everything we expect when we pop a bottle of bubbles. The grapes are sourced from various areas of California and, embody a bright and aromatic with notes of tropical fruit, green apple and lemon citrus complemented.  The Ten of Cups sparkling wine is made in the Méthode Champenoise, Non-Vintage Brut. The wine spends two months in neutral French oak barrels with no malolactic fermentation. Secondary fermentation occurred in the bottle and it was then aged on the lees for 24 months then disgorged. Banshee Wines sells their sparkling wine for $30.
