Birds on a Wire Dance Theatre returns to the Philadelphia Fringe Festival with In the Clearing, on September 9-10, 2016, at Christ Church Neighborhood House (20 N American Street). Clearing. This contemporary, full-length dance work, directed by Artistic Director Melissa Cameron, embarks on a journey through a fairy-tale forest to uncover the best and worst of humanity. What do the dancers discover in these woods? Beauty and nature? Threats and danger? Pack a picnic basket in this BYOB (bring your own picnic basket) adventure and discover what is In the Clearing.

Clean Air Council’s 11th Annual Greenfest Philly returns to Headhouse Square (2nd and South Streets) on Sunday, September 11, 2016 from 10:00am to 4:00pm. The tri-state region’s largest environmental festival is bigger than ever with live music, vegan and vegetarian cooking demos, group bike rides, free adult and kids’ yoga, an outdoor beer garden, organic food and drinks, hybrid vehicle test drives, handmade and green shopping, MOM’s Organic Market Kids’ Corner, a twenty-five foot rock wall, and even edible bugs. Join us on October 18th as we learn about Swedish naturalist Carl Linnaeus and animal classification. Preschoolers love to sort and organize so we will put those skills to the test and learn what animals have in common. Whether fur or scales, beaks or gills, we will sort them into their proper families. The Academy of Natural Science will be on hand with some live examples of animals that Linnaeus helped to classify. Don’t miss the opportunity to meet a fox snake, eastern screech owl, and box turtle in person!
