We invite you and your guests to enjoy an evening of food, drinks, and camaraderie with our fellow walkers at our Annual Kickoff Celebration!
This is a free event for you and your family to come and learn how we are getting the community geared up for our annual walk in Baltimore. Join us and help fight back against ALS in honor of the 600+ individuals living with ALS that our Chapter cares for in the region!
ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis), more commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerves in the brain and spinal cord. It slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. People diagnosed with ALS lose their ability to move and function, while their minds stay alert. Not to mention, military members are twice as likely to be diagnosed with ALS more anyone else. No cure for this disease exists, and patients usually pass away within two to five years of diagnosis.
The ALS Association – DC/MD/VA Chapter works tirelessly to provide completely free care services to people living with ALS in our region. These services include home visits with social workers, support groups, home medical care, transportation grants, assistive technology and augmented communication devices all FREE OF CHARGE.
