Baltimore-DC region gets Schooled, SCHOLA cooking classes for the masses

Primary tabs

Remember Baltimore's innovative and highly popular restaurant CORKS in Baltimore's Federal Hill neighborhood? For 14 years, operated by Chef Jerry Pellegrino, the restaurant specialized in upscale American bistro fare, paired with an extensive wine collection, predominately from California.  Eventually, Chef Jerry brought a Farmers Market meal to his menu weekly, excited and educting locals about the following the farm-to-table movement before shuttering the hotspot in 2011.

Fast forward, almost two decades and the birth of SCHOLA, litterally defined as school in Latin.  Chef Jerry has partnered with one of the first employees he hired at CORKS, the now accomplished Chef Amy von Lange, former executive chef at The Admiral Fell Inn, in Baltimore's Fells Point, to bring cooking expertise to the public in the form of SCHOLA, a cooking school.

Over the years, Chef Jerry has made a major name for himself and has created a terrific following of foodies, wine lovers and bons vivants alike. With his love of educating people on the intricacies of food, the art of cooking and the wine knowledge of sipping and swirling, and his partnership with Chef Amy, it seems only natural that they run their "cooking classes for the masses."

Conducted from a building in the charming Mt Vernon neighborhood of Baltimore, SCHOLA's class types range from Date Night to Chinese Cooking, Wine Education, the art of Butchering from Bison to Lamb to Fish. Don't be intimidate, the owners want participants to be prepared for a fun experience.

The cooking classes are made for beginners or the more educated home chefs. Prices are reasonable ranging in price from $49-89/person, depending on the concept, and include a meal together with your classmates. Although they do not offer alcohol to purchase, Chefs Amy and Jerry encourage participants to "bring a bottle or 2 to share." Riedel stemware, ice and non-alcoholic beverages are available. A day or so after your class, recipes will be sent via email so you can replicate in your home.

SCHOLA's Cooking Class Schedule is here.
