New Yorkers bring iconic Florence Panini Shop Antico Noe to NYC

Primary tabs

Antico Noè has served authentic Tuscan panini from a tiny storefront, off the Piazza San Pier Maggiore in Florence, Italy since 1945. During that time, they have amassed a cult-like status among locals and tourists serving the Italian sandwich. Using the freshest and seasonal friendly ingredients, most say it is the authentic bread that is the star.  Legend has it that the bread is perfect due to the 'salt tax' of the mid-15C. The tax lead most bakers to use scarce proportions in their recipe and it proves to give Antico’s bread the perfect crunch, taste and texture.

In 2007, Michael Grant decided to take a semester off from business school to study Renaissance Art in Florence. This is where he met his love of Antico Noè and made a good friend, a local restaurant worker, Vinny Dautaj. Their lives would eventually come together again, in New York where they joined dreams to launch Antico Noè's USA's first location (220 East 53rd Street in Midtown) in March 2016.

"It is truly an honor to be able to bring Antico N to the States to start the next chapter of its long history,” comments Antico Noè US President Michael Grant. He adds, “We know we have a duty to the founders and the followers of Antico Noè to replicate the amazing panini and experience that has become such an integral element of Florence over the last 70 years. We can’t wait to share the authentic Tuscan panini with this side of the world.”

Lines have been out the door daily as Dautaj and Grant bring the Old World techniques, newest trends and authentic recipes their new 1600 square foot shop. The top ten most popular of the 25 panini sold (the menu is slowly expanding) at the original Florence “sand-wichery” are now being offered. Examples: The #4- Antico Noè’s Famous Stuffed Chicken with Sautéed Mushrooms, Fresh Mozzarella and Antico Noè’s Famous Rosè Sauce ; The #9 Roasted Turkey, Roasted Onions, Brie Cheese & Antico Noè’s Famous Spicy Sauce; and The #15 Prosciutto di Parma, Sautéed Mushrooms, Fresh Mozzarella Cheese & Antico Noès Famous Rosè Sauce are now available in his new shop.
