Mark your calendars and save the date! On the evening of Thursday, May 12, 2016, the Chesapeake Bay Outward Bound School will celebrate 30 years on course at our 14th Annual Cornerstone Awards Dinner honoring Patrick F. Noonan, former president of The Nature Conservancy and The Conservation Fund and recipient of the Lady Bird Johnson Environmental Award. This special event includes a cocktail hour at the historic Orianda Mansion, dinner on the lawn, music and more! Together, we will raise over $275,000 to move students off of the scholarship waiting list and into the ranks of the enrolled.  However, we won’t be able to do it without your help.  I invite you to support our mission of changing lives through challenge and discovery by sponsoring the 2016 Cornerstone Awards Dinner.  The Baltimore Chesapeake Bay Outward Bound School is passionate about using challenge and adventure to instill these skills in our future leaders. 2016 Honoree – Patrick F. Noonan Patrick F. Noonan is founder and chairman emeritus of The Conservation Fund; a non-profit organization dedicated to conserving America’s natural and historic heritage.  Working with public and private partners, the Fund has protected over 7.6 million acres of America’s outdoor heritage since its founding in 1985.  The Conservation Fund has been a leader in land conservation in the Chesapeake Bay Watershed conserving over 325,000 acres in the past two decades. Mr. Noonan also co-founded and currently serves on the board of the Chesapeake Conservancy, formerly known as the Friends of the Captain John Smith Chesapeake Historic Water Trail. He began his career as a Park Planner working for The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission in Montgomery County, Maryland. A former president of The Nature Conservancy (1973-1980), he is a co-founder and former chairman of the American Farmland Trust (1980), and currently serves on its President’s Council.  He is a former trustee of the National Geographic Society and currently serves as vice chairman of the National Geographic Education Foundation.  In addition to his conservation activities, Mr. Noonan has served on the Boards of Ashland and International Paper and currently serves on the Board of Saul Centers.  He is a trustee emeritus of Gettysburg College (where he received his BA) and a former member of the Board of the Nicholas Institute for Environmental Policy at Duke University. Mr. Noonan, who holds an MBA and a Masters in City and Regional Planning, has received numerous awards, including receiving a five-year “genius” fellowship from the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation in 1985 for his pioneering work in fostering partnerships between business and the environmental community. He has served on three Presidential Commissions – the President’s Commission on Americans Outdoors (1985-1987), the President’s Commission on Environmental Quality (1991-1993) and served as a member of the President’s Commission on White House Fellows (2001-2008). Recently, the National Audubon Society recognized him as 1 of 100 conservation leaders whose lives and work shaped the growth of the American conservation movement in the 20th century. Mr. Noonan and his wife Nancy, also a native Washingtonian, currently reside in Chevy Chase, Maryland.
