Cirque du Soleil: Varekai-Cirque du Soleil Varekai visits Charm City!

Primary tabs

Cirque du Soleil is touring the USA. When  Varekai-Cirque du Soleil Varekai visited Charm City, CITYPEEK's Jessica Kim, was there getting a behind the scenes tour! The show's story as per Cirque's website:

Deep within a forest, at the summit of a volcano, exists an extraordinary world - a world where something else is possible. A world called Varekai. The word Varekai means "wherever" in the Romany language of the gypsies the universal wanderers. This production pays tribute to the nomadic soul, to the spirit and art of the circus tradition, and to the infinite passion of those whose quest takes them along the path that leads to Varekai.

From the sky falls a solitary young man, and the story of Varekai begins. Parachuted into the shadows of a magical forest, a kaleidoscopic world populated by fantastical creatures, this young man sets off on an adventure both absurd and extraordinary. On this day at the edge of time, in this place of all possibilities, begins an inspired incantation to life rediscovered.

Skywatcher Scientist and his sidekick Magioso made a public a sneak peak appearance to show what they’re all about as they meandered across Baltimore's Inner Harbor.  (Photos Credit:CITYPEEK- Jessica Kim)

At the Maryland Science Center, Skywatcher and Magioso introduced themselves to children and pranced from exhibit to exhibit. Twirling, juggling, and jumping across one end to another, everyone was full of giggles and delight!

When the acrobats got hungry from all the activity, they went to Philips Seafood Restaurant to feast on Maryland’s famous crabcakes and crabs.  There they unexpectedly joined guests for lunch.

Cirque performers are all about fun and games but they take their show production seriously. Backstage, skilled acrobats rehearse for hours until each scene is perfect.

The acrobatic artistry keeps you on your toes and

and at the edge of your seat. Characters are balancing in mid air and doing flips in aerial straps. All choreography is on point, moving to and fro accordin to the beat. And the vocals and music is mesmerizing.

Varekai is open and runs through July 12. The show is only here a few days so don’t miss out on purchasing your tickets! CityPeek members can save up to 25% off their Varekai Baltimore tickets with the code WINGS.http://www.mdsci.org/
