The UBER of Wine & Spirit Delivery-Drizly brings Beer, Wine, Alcohol Home w Delivery Service - Your town

Primary tabs

Pinch me, it's here the UBER for the liquor and wine business. It's called, DRIZLY bringing home delivery right to your door. The concept is old school- -home delivery, like my article on ORDERUp and food delivery services. But the legalization of the delivery of booze is a totally new and welcomed regulation.

Founded in 2013, two college friends, co-founders, Nick Rellas and Justin Robinson, 'started down a path to figure out a way to legally work within the system to make alcohol delivery a reality.'  In 2013, Drizly, a technology company powering fast, convenient delivery of beer, wine and liquor to consumers across the USA, was born. Backed by angel and institutional investors, the company has raised $4.8 million to become the premier alcohol delivery service in Austin, Baltimore, Boston, Chicago, Denver, Indianapolis, Los Angeles, New York City, Seattle, St. Louis, Washington DC, and other cities across the United States.

Regarding its expansion and entrance into the Washington, DC region, Nick Rellas, co-founder and CEO of Drizly states, “Our rapid American expansion brings us to the nation’s capital, where consumers who order through Drizly will appreciate the speed and convenience we’ve become known for across the United States. We are especially pleased to launch in D.C. with the explicit blessing of local regulators, and the best network of retail partners in that city.”

Areas in Washington, DC where Drizly is now available to consumers include Adams Morgan, Atlas District, Capitol Hill, Cathedral Heights, Chinatown, Cleveland Park, Columbia Heights, Downtown, Dupont Circle, Foggy Bottom, Georgetown, Glover Park, Kalorama, Logan Circle, McLean Gardens, Mt.Vernon Square, Navy Yard, NoMa, Shaw, Southwest, and Woodley Park. Additional areas will be added and announced as they are become available. Delivery is $5 in the District of Columbia.

A Baltimore, MD liquor store, who has entered into the DRIZLY family, is brimming with excitement. "Working with Drizly has been great. It gives an independent retail store the opportunity to participate in eCommerce and reach new customers," states Diana Coyle, owner of Canton Crossing Wine and Sprits. There are two others stores, Wine Underground and Dulaney Wine & Spirits in the Baltimore metropolitan area, each has a set territory of delivery travel.

With a free mobile lifestyle app for iOS and Android, and an e-commerce Web site, consumers of legal drinking age simply log in, and with a few clicks, their favorite beer, wine or liquor is on its way. Deliveries are promised to transact within 20-40 minutes. Fees depend on the city, but in NYC, deliveries are FREE and can be scheduled up to 48 hours in advance. Baltimore is offering free delivery in February and then $5/visit. Delivery drivers authenticate and validate IDs upon arrival.

There are a couple of other competitors in the alcohol, beer and wine delivery business. Companies like SAUCEY, MINIBAR (also the name of a number of restaurants and bars) have also entered the market. SAUCEY, is only in California  and MiniBar appears only in NYC currently.
