Scavenger Hunt worth the prize: Chateau Lafite Rothschild

Primary tabs

Now, I do like a challenge and I may have met one to take. BIN 604 Wine Sellers, located in Baltimore, MD, just announced that it will be hiding a bottle of 2010 Chateau Lafite Rothschild in one of the September $99 'Case of the Month' cases. There will be 250 cases available and scavengers can begin hunting, in unmarked boxes, beginning Tuesday, September 2nd. All the cases will be made on the same day. The question is not will I buy one, but how many will I buy?

One person, for $99, will not only get 11 drinking bottles of wine perfect for September, but a 12th world-acclaimed gem that is valued at $1600. OMG, pick me!!! Yes, a $1600 bottle of Chateau Lafite Rothschild, with ratings ranging from 96 to 100 points, will be in one BIN 604 Wine Sellers $99 September Case of the Month. But, with whom will I sip, in what glasses, decanter? Hmmm.

Some tasting notes from the creator Charles Chevalier: "The 2010 Lafite Rothschild blends 87% Cabernet Sauvignon with 13% Merlot (a 3% difference from the barrel sample shown two years ago), achieved relatively high alcohol of 13.32%," writes Bin 604.

"Almost black in color, this stunning wine is gorgeous, rich and dense. It's grand and powerful, with a strong sense of its own importance. The beautiful tannins and the fragrant black currant fruits are palpable. It's a great wine, with huge potential. Cellar Selection."

100 Points Wine Enthusiast

"This is shy and not giving its all at the moment. Yet it is full and intense with a tightly intertwined tannic and fruit structure. Ethereal blackberry, currant, cedar, and nutty flavors. Dried flowers too. Cedar jewel box smell comes out with time. Great finish. So, so long and harmonious. Try in 2018. "

99 Points James Suckling

There are also 8 runner-up prizes. Hidden in 8 of the $99 'Case of the Month' boxes throughout the month of September will be a bottle of 2012 Châteauneuf-du-Pape, valued at $55.99. Châteauneuf-du-Pape is an estate that continues to churn out outstanding wine after outstanding wine, regardless of the vintage. Excellent, with a similar, fruit-loaded personality, the 2012 Châteauneuf-du-Pape displays abundant blackberry, red currant, licorice and toasted spice notes to go with a medium to full-bodied, pure and polished profile on the palate. Drink now-2024. (90-92) points Wine Advocate #209.

Let me check, where will I be the first week of September? Hmmm.
