Join the Esophageal Cancer Action Network (ECAN) for an evening filled with all the glitz of Tinseltown. Special guest will be Bogie & Bacall’s son, Stephen Bogart, who has taped public service announcements and a film trailer to encourage early detection and raise awareness about the link between heartburn and cancer.
As a nod to Bogie and old Hollywood, this black-tie optional fundraiser is design to feature “all the stuff that dreams are made of.” The celebration kicks off with flashbulbs popping along the red carpet and continues with cocktails, a seated dinner, dancing, auctions and swag bags.
Emcee will be Scott Garceau, host of “The Scott Garceau Show” on Baltimore’s 105.7 The Fan. Event co-chairs are Mark and Karen Schwartzman, owners of Glen Burnie Transmissions. Mark is an ECAN board member who, like Stephen Bogart, lost his father to Esophageal Cancer.
Event proceeds will help ECAN save lives by increasing awareness about the link between heartburn and cancer, promoting early detection and supporting medical innovation to prevent, detect and treat Esophageal Cancer − one of the nation’s fastest growing cancer diagnoses.
A national non-profit organization, based in Baltimore, ECAN is led by a board of directors of top physicians, business leaders and families that have been touched by Esophageal Cancer. Mindy Mintz Mordecai founded ECAN in 2009 after losing her husband and the father of her two young daughters to the disease. Angry and frustrated because she believes that her husband and thousands more like him might never have died had they been aware of the link between heartburn and cancer, Mordecai is determined to prevent others from suffering the pain Esophageal Cancer has caused her family.
