CUMBERLAND, Md. – The National Kidney Foundation of Maryland (NKF-MD) will hold a free KEY (Kidneys: Evaluate Yours) health screening, Wednesday, Mar. 5, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., at Allegany County Health Department (12501 Willowbrook Rd.) in Cumberland.

As part of NKF-MD’s mission of early detection and early intervention, KEY screenings identify early markers for high blood pressure, diabetes and kidney disease.

Overall, kidney disease affects 26 million people. One in three American adults – 73 million people – are at risk for kidney disease, and the risk increases to one in two over the course of a lifetime.

Most people affected do not realize it until the condition has progressed. In fact, 181 of the 769 people screened last year by NKF-MD demonstrated significant results.

No appointments are needed for the screening and any adult can participate following an eight-hour fast. Lasting about 20 minutes, the screening includes a blood test, as well as blood pressure and weight checks. For more information, call NFK-MD at 301-707-7473 or visit www.kidneymd.org.
