NEW “Fort McHenry Boat Tour: A Star-Spangled Experience

Primary tabs

I just had the opportunity to discover what Francis Scott Key experienced around Fort McHenry when he wrote the “bombs bursting in air” and the “rockets red glare”...words to our beloved Star-Spangled Banner. The NEW “Fort McHenry Boat Tour: A Star-Spangled Experience,” a 45-minute narrated tour, debuts running every weekend beginning June 1 with seven tours daily departing on the hour from the Fort McHenry Pier starting at 10:00am.  The tickets will be $10.00 for adults (11 & up) and $5.00 for children (ages 3-10) and sold dockside at the Fort.  (Cash and credit cards accepted.) For more information, log onto www.friendsoffortmchenry.org or call 410-962-4290, ext. 850. (Photo credit: Patti Neumann, CITYPEEK)

With eight speakers blaing patriotic music and fabulous narration by a student from Baltimore School for the Arts students, the “Fort McHenry Boat Tour: A Star-Spangled Experience” is a lively, narrated audio tour on-board a special Water Taxi vessel and was created in partnership with the Friends of Fort McHenry, Baltimore Water Taxi, Fort McHenry National Monument & Historic Shrine and Living Classrooms Foundation. the tour is also supported by a grant from the Maryland War of 1812 Commission’s Star-Spangled 200 Grant Fund.

The Friends of Fort McHenry serves to support educational programming and living history activities, and the creation of interpretive exhibits and visitor facilities that engender the widest appreciation of the Fort and the enduring legacy of “The Star-Spangled Banner,” our National Anthem.  The Friends achieve this mission through generous support from those who value our heritage and the impact that history can have upon our young people.  This is a wonderful way to spend an day with your kids and loved ones. Bring a picnic for before or after as the Fort area is perfect for such activities, but has no food availble for sale. www.friendsoffortmchenry.org or call  410-962-4290, ext. 850.
