WHAT: José Andrés and his team at Jaleo Bethesda will celebrate “Cavalcade of Magi”, the parade which marks the arrival of the three kings (also known as Three Kings Day).   On Saturday, January 5th from 2 PM to 5 PM, parents and their children can come meet the three wise men: Balthasar, Gaspar and Melchior, who, according to Christianity, arrived bearing gifts twelve days after the birth of Jesus.

Complimentary Roscón de Reyes, the Spanish cake traditionally eaten to celebrate Epiphany, will be available for children.  Whoever finds the bean hidden in the cake will be crowned “king/queen for a day” and receive a $50 gift card to the restaurant.

Additionally, guests can order a Roscón de Reyes (king cake) to celebrate the Feast of Epiphany and participate in the delightful Spanish tradition at home.   Priced at $25, the Roscón de Reyes will be available for pick up at all three Jaleo locations on Saturday, January 5, and Sunday January 6.  To place an order please visit: http://www.jaleo.com/about/calendar/roscon-de-reyes.

WHEN: Saturday, January 5, 2013, from 2 PM to 5 PM.

WHERE: Jaleo Bethesda is located at 7271 Woodmont Avenue, Bethesda, MD, 20814; phone (301) 913-0003.  The restaurant is situated two blocks from the Bethesda metro accessible on the red line; there is a public parking lot just one block away on Elm Street.

WHY: The Cavalcade of Magi marks the arrival of the three wise men, or three kings, who according to Christianity, were a group of distinguished foreigners who visited Jesus after his birth, bearing gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh.  On January 5th, in most Spanish towns, the three kings ride on floats throwing candy to children.  After the parade, children return to their homes to prepare for the arrival of the Three Kings.  They place their shoes on the windowsills and fill them with food for the Three Kings and their horse, camel and elephant, the creatures they ride on this biblical journey.  The next morning the children wake up early to open their presents.
