As part of the United States Navy Memorial’s Authors on Deck book lecture series, RADM Terry McKnight will present his latest work written in collaboration with journalist Michael Hirsh, Pirate Alley: Commanding Task Force 151 Off Somalia (Naval Institute Press; October 15, 2012).  Pirate Alley is an authoritative introduction to the Somali piracy dilemma that explores every aspect of the issue – from how the pirates operate to how their actions have impacted the world economy.

With the global security issue of Somali piracy on the rise, Admiral Terry McKnight took command of a new multi-national task force in 2009 to combat piracy in the Gulf of Aden.  Through his experiences, McKnight is able to offer unique insight into the culture and global economic impact of piracy, which costs as much as $13 billion each year.  Pirate Alley evaluates several efforts to solve the problem, including placing armed guards aboard merchant ships, and highlights the best ways to outfit ships for travel through high risk areas.

Following the presentation, Admiral McKnight will be available for a Q&A session and book signing.
