Breast Cancer education Event for community
Eighth Annual “Ladies for Life” to take place on Saturday, October 6
Arlington, VA (September xx, 2012) – Virginia Hospital Center will host a free breast cancer awareness event, “Ladies for Life,” on Saturday, October 6, from 9 - 11 am at the Hospital’s John T. Hazel, MD Conference Center. The breast cancer awareness community event offers tools and information that women need to make empowered decisions about their own health and wellness, with a focus on breast cancer prevention.
“Breast cancer is preventable, treatable and curable. Our main goal with the ‘Ladies for Life’ event is to educate all women about the importance of breast cancer screening and prevention,” said Dr. Stephanie Akbari, Medical Director of the Reinsch Pierce Family Center for Breast Health at Virginia Hospital Center. “It’s never too early to learn about breast health and we look forward to helping women better understand breast cancer and its treatment.”
This year’s “Ladies for Life” will consist of the following events:
- 9:00 am: Healthy Breakfast & Health and Wellness Booths.
- 9:30 am: Exercise demonstration including tips on safe and proper low-impact exercise. Event attendees should dress comfortably. Participation is optional.
- 10:00 am: Panel on breast health updates living, and nutrition and breast cancer prevention.

The Reinsch Pierce Family Center for Breast Health at Virginia Hospital Center was the first Breast Center in Virginia and Washington, DC to be nationally-accredited by the American College of Surgeons’ National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC).
