Mondays in May Join Barrett’s Grill for Live Jazz & Devilish Dining for Charity
Special Menu Spotlights The Red Devils 10th Anniversary Cookbook & Breast Cancer Cause

Barrett’s Grill, destined to become “Hunt Valley’s premier dining choice,” has teamed with local charity The Red Devils for a series of Mondays in May where a “Devilish Dining” experience in tandem with live jazz will raise money for the breast cancer cause and salute recipes from the newly-published 10th Anniversary “The Red Devils Devilish Dining: Recipes from the Heart.”

The locally-owned restaurant is located at 118 Shawan Road, Ste. DD on the upper level of Hunt Valley Towne Centre adjacent to Regal Cinemas and replaced the now defunct Greystone Grill. Owners John Barrett, his dad John E. Barrett Jr. and partner Michael Sipes raised the new dining flag in July of 2011, creating a new brand “focused on a diverse menu of American classic dishes with the distinct flavor profiles that come from insistence on made-from-scratch, Über –fresh, high-quality ingredients,” according to John, who grew up in Towson and is relocating his family back to the area from Vienna, VA.

Mondays in May, Barrett’s will give 15% of all lunch and dinner receipts to The Red Devils on these dates: May 7, 14, 21 and 28. Chefs Brian Harrison and Robert Newby will adapt recipes from the charity’s 10th anniversary cookbook plus craft new culinary creations inspired by the “red” in The Red Devils to create a prix fixe menu for both lunch ($15) and dinner ($30).Some gastronomic examples might be Bloody Mary specials; appetizers such as “Mozzarella Capres,” “ Bruschetta” or “Maple-Cured Bacon and Deviled Eggs;” a “Watermelon Salad” livened up with roasted red beets; a “Strawberry Pie” for dessert.

Patients, patrons, board members and more have contributed cookbook recipes, from board members Drs. Dean and Lauri Kane, of The Center for Cosmetic Surgery & MediSpa in Pikesville, who submitted winners such as “Mom’s Jewish Noodle Kugel,”
Lynn Baklor’s “Grandma Bee’s Coffee Cake,” Paige Koerner’s “Margarita Cake” and Christopher Schardt of Canton’s “Glona’s Christmas Marzipan” to McDonogh CFO Jeanne Backof’s “Lemony Cucumber;” Towson Arbonne consultant Cindy Hoke’s “Cindy’s Devilish Eggs;” Eastern Shore Red Devil ambassador Peg Stanley’s “Asparagus Risotto;” Sue Glick Liebman’s “Blintzes Soufflé;” and Mt. Washington resident and The Red Devils Executive Director Jan Wilson’s “Devilish Shrimp,” inspired by Rick Bayless.

Certain designated Happy Hours from 2:00 – 7:00 p.m. are targeted to be staffed with celebrity guest bartenders. Check Barrett’s website at www.barrettsgrill.com or The Red Devils website at www.thereddevilsmd.org for additional information.

Jr. Bynum and The GrooveMasters are part of the featured Monday night fare, with free live performances from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Guests will dine to a rotating mix of jazz, modern, country, rock, R&B blues and more with a talented rotation of musicians and vocalists, many of whom have won national acclaim. According to Morgan Barrett, “Mondays, diners will know their dollars support a charity dedicated to improving the quality of life for MD breast cancer patients and their families. Through a network of 38 hospital partners across the state and team of professional service vendors, The Red Devils provides referred patients with a range of free services, from transportation to life-saving treatment and delivery of nourishing meals and groceries to help with drug co-payments, stress-relieving therapeutic massage and more.” Barrett is the wife of John Barrett and handles catering and special events for the restaurant.

Wilson says patrons of Barrett’s on Monday evenings will learn about the cause and have a chance to register in advance for the Sunday, June 10 “The Red Devils 5K Run & Stroll” at Goucher College, the biggest fundraiser of the year. Those who dine there may also receive a 10th anniversary cookbook for a donation of $20 or more which will include a special recipe from Barrett’s as well as a $20 coupon offering a future discount at Barrett’s.
