The second annual HEAT IT TO BEAT IT benefit 2.8 mile walk along the Inner Harbor Promenade will be held on Sunday, Sept. 18th with registration at 9 a.m. and the walk at 10 a.m. Other highlights include children's games, nutrition consultations, mini-massages, acupuncture, and ZUMBA! Cost is $30 per participant; children under age 12 walk for free; free t-shirt for each registered participant. This benefit walk helps raise awareness and funds re: Peritoneal Carcinomatosis, a common and complex presentation of a variety of cancers of the abdominal cavity. Dr. Armando Sardi, Director of the Institute for Cancer Care at Baltimore's Mercy Medical Center, and Dr. Vadim Gushchin, Director of Gastrointestinal Oncology at Mercy, are specialists in the treatment of this disease using HEATED intraperitoneal chemotherapy or HIPEC. For many patients, this is the only chance for long-term survival. Proceeds from HEAT IT TO BEAT IT support the research conducted by Drs. Sardi and Gushchin and their colleagues at Mercy Medical Center whose work helps to provide scientificalyl proven treatments for patietns with Peritoneal Carcinomatosis world-wide. Last year's event raised nearly $100,000 as 562 people from across the U.S. participated.
