This vibrant program is designed to be a forum for attendees to share poetry, spoken word and other forms of self-expression. DC needs new a venue where poets of our region can be showcased in a manner that provides them with opportunities to gain greater exposure.
Because Green Island Cafe is next door to Columbia Station. one of the premier jazz spot in DC, the program will regularly feature local jazz vocalists and instrumentalists. The blending of poetry and jazz was conceived in the 1920s by African-Americans, maintained in the 1950s by counterculture poets like those of the Beat generation, and adapted in modern times into hip-hop music and other live poetry events. Audience participation will be encouraged throughout. So please come and support our program!
In addition, the Green Island Cafe offers great food, and drinks. Another bonus, a renown local jazz band will be performing immediately after our event in Columbia Station. So spread the word, the Green Island Cafe is the place to be on every Tuesday night of the month. Let's make Tuesday the new Friday!
