BALTIMORE – As part of its National Kidney Month commemoration, the National Kidney Foundation of Maryland (NKF-MD) will present a special book-signing event.

Angela Balcita, a Baltimore resident whose work has appeared in the New York Times, will sign copies of her new book, Moonface: A True Romance, at Baltimore’s largest independent bookstore, Greetings & Readings.

Garnering rave reviews, Moonface is an upbeat memoir about Balcita’s triumph over kidney disease. She underwent three transplants: receiving a kidney first from her brother, then from her boyfriend who is now her husband, and finally from a friend.

More than a memoir about living with a chronic disease, the book addresses learning to accept the sacrifices family and friends make on your behalf and the extraordinary relationships that follow. NKF-MD will have an information table at the book signing and Greetings & Readings will donate a portion of the proceeds from the day’s Moonface sales to NKF-MD. Serving central and western Maryland, the Delmarva Peninsula and portions of West Virginia, the National Kidney Foundation of Maryland is the area’s only voluntary health agency dedicated to the prevention, treatment and cure of kidney and urinary tract diseases.
