CITYPEEK is so excited for the opening of KONA GRILL's newest location-Verizon building facing Pratt Street in downtown Baltimore. Get You Sneak Peak here--I was honored to be a chosen few to meet the Executive Team including its head honcho, KONA GRILL CEO, Mark Buehler known as the "Respected leader. Restaurant Visionary. A 'making it happen' everyday kind of guy. Kona Grill is accessible from the street level-providing rolling up windows and enclosed patio for outside dining year-round. There is a wine cocktail program, a Scratch kitchen- a Saucier Chef, sushi chef-open kitchen ready to serve new American and stunningly fresh sushi.

We were also greeted at the small event by General Manager, Mark Underwood, Executive Chef Dan Baldwin and esteemed sushi chef of more than 25 years, Chef Fred Yamadada who has been with KONA GRILL since its inception.

Additionally Chef Fred was trained by Chef Tagashi in the rich tradition of sushi making. Rachel Phillips-Luther, VP of Marketing and Innovation, led the behind-the-scenes tour of the soon-to-be Baltimore hot spot explaining that KONA GRILL has "a great energy- Coming to Kona is an experience full of energy- which always makes for an exciting evening."

I sampled some of the delicious items recently at a hard-hat tour. We first tried fresh sushi nigiri, houston roll and famous steamed pot-stickers. There will be a BALTIMORE ROLL--any ideas of what it should be/look like, pls post comments below to win $25 to KONA newest location if it is chosen!

The piece de la resistance was the miso marinated sea bass-'OMG' melts in your mouth-I cannot wait to try that again-YUM! Lastly was the fabulous passion fruit creme brule. Enough said? Well a parting gift was pineapple-papaya marmalade suggested to best serve a la KONA style-with chicken!

They have a full SKINNY menu for cocktails (under 100 calories) and food items (under 200 calories) so weather you want a burger or pizza, sushi or gluten free, this moderately priced restaurant is the place for date night, cocktails or full out meal. You can get your first taste on October 4, 2010 when the restaurant officially opens to the public. Remember to check out the fabulous fish tank with over 4000 tropical fish including puffer eels!Oh an @konagrill on twitter or follow #citypeek-they love social networking like we do!
