Spike's new restaurant-DC Pizza and Burger's go gourmet

We, The Pizza-THE SECOND RESTAURANT FROM THE TOP CHEF BREAKOUT STAR OPENS NEXT DOOR TO HIS HUGELY SUCCESSFUL BURGER JOINT “GOOD STUFF EATERY” ON CAPITOL HILL IN WASHINGTON, D.C.

– Chef Spike Mendelsohn, the breakout star of the hit series Top Chef, is set to open the doors to his second restaurant, We, The Pizza on July 15. The Italian eatery will be located right next door to his successful burger restaurant Good Stuff Eatery in the Capitol Hill section of Washington, D.C.

We, The Pizza will feature New York-style pizza, donned with regional, farm-fresh ingredients and toppings like creamed spinach, pancetta, shaved truffles as well as the traditional toppings like pepperoni and mozzarella. It will be sold either by the pie or the slice. Other menu items include: Italian sandwiches like “The Muffaletta” with mortadella and cherry pepper salad, house-made gelati with flavors like s’mores and amaretto cherry, and an old-fashioned soda fountain serving Italian sodas with names like “Love You Long Time Lemon Lime.” The two-story space will be accommodate 90 seats for eating in and the restaurant will also offer takeout service. Mendelsohn and business partner Chef Mike Colletti worked for nearly a year perfected the best dough for their “signature” crust. We, The Pizza is located on 305 Pennsylvania Ave. SE and open 6 days a week from 11:30 AM to 11 PM.

Spike Mendelsohn was a fan favorite on the fourth season of Top Chef and opened Good Stuff Eatery in Washington, D.C., in 2008. Most recently he released his first cookbook, “The Good Stuff Cookbook,” that reached the #1 spot on Amazon’s Cookbook List. He’s appeared on The View, Good Morning America, CBS Early Show, Rachael Ray Show been featured in the The Washington Post (who also named him for best burger restaurant in 2010), The New York Times, Food & Wine Magazine, People Magazine and more. Chef Spike has competed on Iron Chef America. He beat out some of the country’s biggest chefs at the 2009 NYC and South Beach Wine & Food Festivals’ Burger Bashes taking home top honors for the best burger. Before opening Good Stuff Eatery, Chef Spike worked as a chef de cuisine at Mai House in New York City, which received two stars from Frank Bruni and was listed as one of the ten best restaurants by the New York Times in 2008. A graduate of The Culinary Institute of America, Chef Spike has also worked at top restaurants including Bouchon in Napa Valley, Les Crayeres in France, and Le Cirque in New York. Good Stuff Eatery will soon franchise in D.C. and other cities across the country.
