Philadelphia Chocolate Tours’ founder and CEO, Valerie Beck, who is a graduate of Harvard University and Harvard Law School, launched Philadelphia Chocolate Tours in November, focusing on Center City Philly. Of course, as expected, samples are part of the $40 tour which entitles one to 2.5 hour of chocolate bliss.  Beck operates tours in Philadelphia, Boston & Chicago Chocolate Tours was the first, beginning in 2005. She also has Boston Chocolate Tours

Per her CV, Valerie has been a chocolate maniac her whole life, refusing to drink milk in kindergarten if it wasn't chocolate milk. She graduated from Harvard College and Harvard Law School, with her chocolate fascination a constant presence in her life. Living in Europe for 5 years, she traveled in her free time to the great chocolate cities and towns. She started bringing friends with her on these "chocolate tours," and when she returned to the States she realized that we have such wonderful chocolate shops and cafes right here that there should be a tour to spotlight them and to connect chocolate lovers with the best chocolate items.

Philadelphia Chocolate Tour says its customers will learn about the history and health benefits of chocolate, as well as the history of Philadelphia and its neighborhoods. Girl Scout Cookies got their start in Philadelphia. Seventy percent of cocoa beans are imported through the Port of Philadelphia. And many neighborhoods have their own chocolate-making history. The tour company chose its featured chocolate or pastry shops based on three criteria: that they’re walking distance from other shops, they offer a first-class product and “they have to be nice,” said Beck. “If I wanted to stay in a cranky world, I would have stayed in law,” she said. Beck hopes to expand to other cities, including Washington, DC; San Diego and even Paris.

Oui oui, we do hope so! And does Ms. Beck and her "chocolate stars" know about the world famous Baltimore DeBaufre's Berger Cookie?
