Pikesville Miller's Deli Gets New Owners, City Cafe, New area spots open

Miller's Delicatessan at the Greenspring Shopping Center, a fixture in the Pikesville Deli scene for over four decades, was purchased on April 1st by restaurateur Jeff Karlin and entrepreneur Mark Neumann.  The 4,500 square foot restaurant, located in the Greenspring Shopping Center off Smith Avenue, is a traditional old-fashioned deli specializing in homemade corned beef, reubens, pastrami, turkey, hand-sliced nova (smoked salmon) and countless other favorites.  They also have other  familiar Jewish-style staples such as latkes (potato pancakes), knishes (potato dumplings) and coddies (mashed potato cakes), all homemade on site.
The late Manny Miller opened the original
Miller's Deli, often working alongside his daughter, Barbara Blue.  Neumann explained that it is their goal to “continue Miller's reputation for serving outstanding traditional deli food.”  Although they declined to outline specifics, Neumann and Karlin plan to make some physical improvements to the space over the next year or so.  As they spoke, I sampled a delicious Cloak and Dagger sandwich (freshly sliced turkey with homemade coleslaw and Russian dressing).  I then purchased a bottle of wine from their nice assortment and left a happy customer!
Neumann and Karlin are no strangers to the restaurant business.  Neumann also owns the
The Penguin Diner, on Garfield Parkway in Bethany Beach, a beach favorite. Karlin previously owned Pebbles Pub, which was an institution for approximately 40 years in the Security Blvd area.
Miller's delivers breakfast and lunch platters for a host of area businesses.  Open 7am to 9pm daily.  Located at 2849 Smith Avenue, Baltimore, MD 21209.  410-602-2233.  www.millersdeli.com
