Junior League of Baltimore Stages “Better Dressed Sale” at The Wise
Penny Near Belvedere Square
One Pair of Jimmy Choo’s! Line up Early!

Baltimore, MD March 21, 2010 – For the second weekend in a row the
Junior League of Baltimore’s (JLB) Wise Penny is the place to be for
one-of-a-kind fashion bargains at the Better Dressed Sale (BDS) March
27 to benefit the non-profit’s programs, including a campaign to
combat childhood obesity and job-training and mentoring for at-risk
women.

A combination of brand new and gently worn evening wear, purses,
jewelry and other accessories go on sale at 10:00 a.m. this Saturday
until 5:00 p.m. A line is expected for early birds eager to be the
first to land such fashion bargains as the sole pair of almost new
Jimmy Choo shoes, size 6 ½, in black. The sale is the perfect place
to find prom dresses, some with tags still on and priced from just $25
and up, which means some Baltimore teens otherwise unable to afford
dresses will now go to proms thanks to the Junior League of Baltimore
and generous Fairy Godmothers in the community who donated the finery.

The Wise Penny is located on the ground floor of the JLB’s
headquarters location at 5902 York Road, next door to the Senator
Theatre and one block south of the popular Belvedere Square market and
retail area.

“Each year the public anticipates the JLB’s ‘Better Dressed Sale.’ Our
theme this spring is ‘Puttin’ on the Ritz’ and we have plenty of glitz
and glitter with our emphasis on evening wear, fancy frocks both long
and short for special occasions. We’ve been incredibly lucky with
some fabulous donations from the community. One woman came in this
week with an armful of clothes, many with the price tags still
attached,” says Wise Penny Chair Jan Shettle, of Homeland.

While no preview event is planned, the early bird gets the bargains at
the Better Dressed Sale, according to Wise Penny Chair -Elect Lauren
Necochea. “Unlike the Boutique Warehouse Sale, where we might have
many of the same dress or shoe in a number of sizes, the Better
Dressed Sale offers one-of-a-kind items, such as these particular
Jimmy Choo’s, and when someone snaps them up, they’re gone,” says
Necochea, a resident of Highlandtown.

Other items sure to stir a shopping frenzy at the Better Dressed Sale
include some Stuart Weiztman shoes; mint condition Coach bags; and
dresses bearing such trendy labels as Theory, BCBG and Diane von
Furstenburg.

“We’ll still accept donations from the community to the Better Dressed
Sale. Now is the perfect time to do a spring cleaning and get those
fancy frocks you’ve either never or barely worn over to The Wise Penny
and get a tax write-off for next year as well, which is on the mind as
we approach the IRS income tax filing date,” says Shettle.

JLB President Stephanie Bartal Lubitz, of Ruxton, says “Monies raised
from this sale, as well as last weekend’s Boutique Warehouse Sale,
will allow us to expand our programs and help more people in need.”

“JLB programs range from our Kids in the Kitchen project which teaches
children and their families about healthy lifestyles and nutrition;
The Wise Penny thrift shop on the first floor of our headquarters,
which also is where we stage our Women’s Internship Program to
provide job-training and mentoring for at-risk women; and our
partnership with Govans Elementary School to increase parental
involvement,” says the JLB’s President-Elect Laura Pappas, of Phoenix,
MD.
