Bobby Flay comes to Baltimore for a Throwdown with Rodney Henry of Dangerously Delicious Pies-

Bobby Flay vs Rodney Henry Quiche Throwdown--who won? (seen left Rodney Henry with CITYPEEK.com CEO, Patti Neumann last summer sampling his then new, now top-seller, 'Baltimore Bomb' pie)

World renown chef and TV personality, Bobby Flay shot into Baltimore today,  March 9, to do his famous "THROWDOWN with BOBBY FLAY" to air one Wednesday night at 9 pm on the Food Network. The event took place at Lucky's Tavern at Power Plant Live! Over 100 spectators including Rod's family, wife, mom and son were in attendance as well as Baltimore economic development notables.

So Bobby comes in and says, 'This is a throwdown. Are we doing crab?' Rodney retorted, 'no we are doing quiche!', explains Erin Hopkins who was in the crowd of spectators representing Federal Hill Main Street, the organization that promotes the restaurants, bars and shops in the Federal Hill area where Dangerously Delicious Pies is located.

What was made?

Bobby Flay made a spicy, savory quiche, eggs, cream,  jalapenos, goat cheese, chorizo sausage. Chef Flay also made a pesto with jalapenos that he drizzled on top of his quiche.

Rodney Henry made his traditional-Cowboy Quiche-as noted on his business website www.dangerouspies.com  -the contents of the quiche are filled "Cowboy Quiche (Everything in the House) $28. Sources at the event remember hearing jalapenos were also included. Quiche is a little bit of everything. Whatever we feel like putting in a quiche that day makes it into the cowboy quiche. Potatoes, onions, bacon, ham, cheeses, you've got it.

"A lot of water was being served as the crowd tasted the spice in both entries," adds Ms. Hopkins.

Rodney played guitar for a while before the event began, perhaps to settle his nerves as he does blow off steam in a band, The Glenmont Popes. He was even accompanied on one song by his young son, Waylen. Chef Rodney writes CITYPEEK exclusively, "I haven't felt this relaxed in a while. .I start the Pie and Rock-n-Roll tour on Friday at the DC shop. I kick off 10 days from DC to Austin, TX. Pie at every show and I get to play every night."

Judges were simply 2 of Baltimore's Finest: Cindy Wolfe, The Charleston Group, and Fireman Clarke who is Baltimore firefighter.

The Bobby Flay-Rodney Henry Show is set to air sometime in the near future Wednesday at 9 pm on the Food Network.

The best thing I ever ate episode is to air again tonight--notice where Duff Goldman of Charm City Cakes says the best thing he ever ate is the Baltimore Bomb which I, CITYPEEK Patti, personally sampled last Summer when it was launched (seen above in picture.) This pie has quickly climbed to a top selling position. Created especially for Baltimore by one mean Dangerously Delicious Pie-slinger (Ariel Winter), Again, as defined on their website-" it's loaded with Berger Cookies (a local specialty) that melt down and swirl into a sweet vanilla chess filling. This pie could be the ultimate of decadence." This pi also sells for $28. All pies can be sold by the slice, sweet or savory, there is always a decadent creation in the pie shop.

Recently Chef Henry has branched into the DC market opening a shop in the district at 1339 H Street, NE as well. Dangerously Delicious Pies used to have a location in Bethany Beach, Delaware

near the boardwalk in Bethany Beach and across the street from the Penguin Diner (Baltimore owners) is now located.

Last week CITYPEEK reported " Dangerously Delicious Pies will be filming a segment for the FOOD NETWORK next week at POWER PLANT LIVE! Congrats to Rod Henry, the Pie Man on all of your success. Recently Rod opened up a pie shp in DC at 1339 H Street, NW. www.dangerouspies.com Stop in to the Federal Hill location, the street whiffs of DEEEE-lish-- We recommend the Baltimore 'aka Berger' Bomb! Rodney has been on the Food Network before competing against Paula Deen--Savory Chicken Pie vs Savory Fried Chicken Pie (Paula's choice, but of course).

Congratulations for keeping Baltimore on the map--seems 2 bakers, Duff GOLDMAN of CHARM CITY CAKES & RODNEY HENRY of DANGEROUSLY DELICIOUS PIES are keeping Baltitmore's name as a place for serious sweet tooth foodies, grounded firmly on the map!

What is your favorite pie-comment below. Maybe Rod will make you famous for its creation! And don't let his looks scare you, Rod is a sweetie-pie--- oops, did we just say that? Wink!

OH, who won??? Sadly, the home team was represented but didn't take top prize. Congratulations Bobby Flay!
