Polar Bear Plunge for Special Olympics MD-On January 29 & 30, 2010, I (Kristin Doehring) will take the Plunge into the cold waters of the Chesapeake Bay - NOT JUST ONCE, BUT 24 TIMES! Polar Bear Plunge for Special Olympics MD--SOMD is a cause that is near and dear to my heart! I have been a volunteer for the Polar Bear Plunge for 11 years as well as a plunger. I have also participated in various other events for Special Olympics over the years.

Last year, for the first time I volunteered for the SuperPlunge. Wow, what an inspiration it was for me to see what this great group of people would do to raise money for Special Olympics. And if that wasn't inspiring enough, the four athletes that plunged 24 times was amazing. They are amazing atheletes and I only hope that I can have some of their courage. So, instead of volunteering this year-I will take the plunge! Not just once, but 24 times to show my support for Special Olympics Maryland.

I hope you will help support my goal to raise $10,000. Remember, no amount is too little because it all adds up! For any donation of $1,000 or more, I will wear your name or your company name somewhere on me while I am plunging. Hope you will scrape some money together to support the cause that is so important to me! OTHER WAYS TO DONATE: Silent Auction Items for the event attached or for 98 Rock's online auction. The value of all items will be credited to my fundraising efforts. So here we are, just 10 days away from my first Super Plunge on Friday, January 29! As I sit here...I wonder...AM I CRAZY to jump in the freezing cold water of the Chesapeake Bay, not once, but 24 times around the clock???? The answer is YES....but I know that by jumping into the frigid waters of the Bay my actions will result in warming the hearts of many individuals with intellectual disabilities who will be able to benefit from the programs of Special Olympics because of the funds raised through the Super Plunge and the Maryland State Police Polar Bear Plunge...through OUR efforts!!!!

I NEED YOUR HELP TO REACH MY GOAL TO RAISE $10,000. Giving couldn't be easier, just click on the website. Remember that Special Olympics Maryland is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization and your donation is tax deductible to the full extent of the law and you can still write it off on your 2009 taxes. Better yet, 10,000 great reasons to donate....the 10,000 Special Olympics athletes in Maryland that are able to take advantage of the life enhancing programs of Special Olympics because of your generosity.....or how about 75,000 even greater reasons....those individuals in our state who could benefit from the programs of Special Olympics but have not yet been reached.

In the next 10 days, I will use the Special Olympics athletes as my motivation and live up to their oath in my fundraising efforts.... "Let me win. But if I can not win, let me be brave in the attempt!"
