The HIPPODROME and University of MD students/employees have a new spot open conveniently across from the beautiful theater where Lucy's Irish Pub and Maggie Moore's used to be housed. Welcome ALEWIFE -

What is Alewife ?  A term used way back for a woman who pours beer)  just in time for the HIPPODROME THEATER season!  ALEWIFE, a 300-seat restaurant and bar, is co-owned by the husband-wife team of Bryan and Alicia Palombo and Daniel Lanigan and promises to be an upscale beer bar, full of interesting craft brews -over 140 worldwide on tap and/or bottles and a tasty gastro-pub menu.

Bryan writes CIYPEEK:

"We try to sell the best of everything or what we consider to be the best in Beer and food. All our food is made fresh in house with local ingredients and local talent. And our Beer list has been compiled after traveling and tasting beer from all over the world."

We think the smoked gouda burger with caramelized onions on a brioche roll is outstanding and well, mention "duck fat french fries" and you had me at hello! Many more food options from fish to beef. Highly recommend ALEWIFE. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

NEW RESTAURANT-We reported back in August of a new spot to open in Locust Point called BARRACUDA's and we just got word via twitter that the soft opening is tonight. Once the spot of Lando Orsino's LUCA's Cafe in Locust Point (the area South of Federal Hill), the neighborhood hangout is now changing in concept to become Barracudas-a Locust Point Tavern. Owned by Chefs Paul Cuda (formally at Claddaugh's Pub in Canton & corporte Hyatt Hotel Chef) & Billy Hughes, this is going to be an exciting addition to the neighborhood. We learned there will be fresh carved meats, flat bread pizzas, whole fresh fish, burgers and a great atmosphere! Good luck and say hi to RICO BARRY behind the bar!

Red Tree Baltimore located on the 36th Street "Avenue" in Hamden announces big news on their facebook page ! "We are excited to announce the opening of a 2nd location in Washington, DC! The new location will be called Trohv (pronounced trove) and will include all of the great stuff in our current shop plus a few new additions! Please let your DC pals know that we'll be in their 'hood this November. Follow "Trohv DC" ...on Facebook for more info. Thanks for sharing in this fun (and big!) decision with us!"
