NEWS FROM THE ST MICHAEL's FOOD AND WINE FESTIVAL from The Wine Coach: Laurie Forster, The Wine Coach® was at the St. Michaels Food and Wine Festival this weekend on the picturesque waterfront in St. Michaels, MD. The summer like weather ensured that the tents and tables were at full capacity with over 1200 visitors on Saturday. The Wine Coach® had a shady spot to promote The Sipping Point book, as well as delivering her wine workshop “Wine by the Numbers” to a sold out crowd. In the seminar she demystified the 100 point wine rating system used by Robert Parker, Wine Enthusiast magazine and other publications. Guests tasted 5 wines and generated their own ratings for each using the process. In the end, everyone learned that rating wine can be subjective. The takeaway was to taste lots of wines and to use the ratings along with their own judgment. Afterwards Laurie signed copies of her book The Sipping Point book and answered questions from the crowd. Other seminars were led by Jim Bernau, founder of Willamette Valley Vineyards, importer Robert Kacher and The Wetzels from Alexander Valley Vineyards. Chef demonstrations were also a hit with this culinary crowd who learned some tricks of the trade from Roberto Donna, Executive Chef of Bebo Trattoria, Vikram Garg—Executive Chef of Halekulani Hotel in Hawaii and St Michaels own Chef Mark Salter from The Inn at Perry Cabin.
