Inis Nua Theatre Company presents the 2017 Heritage Reading: A Taste of Honey by Shelagh Delaney on Monday, April 10, 2017, at 7:00pm, at The Proscenium Theater at The Drake (302 Hicks St). The yearly Heritage Reading features a play that has inspired the next generation of playwrights. Premiering in 1958, this groundbreaking play follows a 17-year-old working class girl as she navigates the class, race and sexual divisions of 1950s Great Britain. British dramatist Shelagh Delaney wrote the play when she was 18, hoping use British theatre to address social issues.

Inis Nua Theatre Company’s Immigration Stories reading series features Speechless by Linda Brogan and Polly Teale on Monday, May 1, at 7:00 pm in the Proscenium Theater at the Drake. First produced by Shared Experience and Sherman Cymru in Cardiff at the Chapter Arts Centre, Speechless is the extraordinary story of June and Jennifer Gibbons, the children of immigrants from Barbados living in Wales. Diagnosed as “elective mutes”, these identical twins build their own intense and secret world, speaking to each other in their own private language but refusing to communicate with anyone else.

South Street kicks off Philly's summer festival season with a free, all-day, all ages block party on Saturday, May 6, 2017 from 11:00am to 8:00pm. South Street Spring Festival will take over South Street between Front and 8th, plus continue onto 2nd Street Plaza. 30+ restaurants and bars will serve food and drink outside on the street. The district will come alive with music and entertainment from 40 bands, three stages and seven additional street locations. Children of all ages will enjoy free family fun in the Family Fun Zone.

Hop on down to South Street for egg-citing family fun during Philadelphia’s 86th Easter Promenade on Sunday, April 16, 2017 starting at 12:30pm.
