BRAT Productions kicks off their 20th season with the world premiere of The Lid during the 2015 Fringe Festival on September 4-6, 2015 at Underground Arts (1200 Callowhill St). This theatrical rock opera, written by emerging Philadelphia singer songwriter Pat Finnerty, features 14 originally penned British invasion songs. The Lid tells the story of Lee, a man who lives a “no fun” life trudging back and forth between his simple boring house and his simple boring job. Lee’s world is “all fish and no chips,” until one day he discovers a lid in a meadow.

This extraordinary gathering of paintings reveals the story of Monet, Renoir, Degas, Manet, Pissarro, and their visionary art dealer and champion, Paul Durand-Ruel. The artists now known as the Impressionists once struggled to introduce their new style of painting to critics and the public. With Durand-Ruel, they forged an identity and moved from the margins to international fame.

Celebrate the spirit of Labor Day by learning more about Joe Hill (born Joel Emmanuel Hägglund), the Swedish-American labor activist, songwriter, cartoonist, and member of the Industrial Workers of the World. Hill quickly became a martyr for the cause of organized labor after being executed in 1915 by the State of Utah. His songs and letters, as well as tributes to him, galvanized striking workers throughout the 20th Century. Now, 100 years after his death, Hill’s life and work have continued to inspire young agitators.
