WASHINGTON, D.C. [August 15, 2012] – The U.S. Navy Memorial Foundation will host a silent auction featuring seven all-inclusive packages, including luxury vacations and fine dining experiences, at the 2012 Lone Sailor Awards Dinner on Tuesday, September 18. The black tie gala will be held at The National Building Museum, 401 F Street, NW, Washington, D.C.
During the silent auction, the first in the 23- year history of the Lone Sailor Awards, guests will have the opportunity to bid on exclusive items, with the proceeds benefitting the U.S. Navy Memorial Foundation. Among the several travel packages is a five-day trip to Northern California’s wine country, including airfare and hotel accommodations, private tours and tastings at six Napa Valley and Sonoma Valley wineries and gourmet meals at the famous Saint Francis Yacht Club and the Culinary Institute of America at Greystone (Valued at $15,000).
Guests can also bid on a trip for four to watch a Washington Redskins vs. Dallas Cowboys football game in the new Cowboys Stadium alongside Hall-of-Fame quarterback Roger Staubach in his luxury box (Valued at $3,500).
Lockheed Martin is offering simulated flights for four at its Fighter Demonstration Center in Arlington, VA, where the highest bidder can test his or her flying skills inside the virtual cockpits of an F-35 Lighting II and an F-22 Raptor (Valued at $1,000).
For those with a love of the beach and golf, there is a week’s vacation in an Outer Banks luxury beach vacation home which sleeps up to 12 guests and is only 500 yards from the beach, with special rates at the nearby Kilmarlic Golf Club. (Valued at $3,000).
The auction will also feature several local packages, including an all-inclusive dinner for 10 at internationally-renowned chef Jose Andre’s Zaytinya, located in the heart of Penn Quarter and renowned for its Greek, Turkish and Lebanese cuisine (Valued at $1,000). Guests can also bid to enjoy a private movie screening for up to 240 friends in the state-of-the-art Burke Theater at the Navy Memorial – popcorn, soda & candy included!(Valued at $2,500). Art lovers will be enticed by five wood-framed 8x10 inch photographs taken by Carlos Campbell, which capture iconic figures including Muhammad Ali and former president Ronald Reagan (Valued at $300).
The Lone Sailor Award is given to Sea Service veterans who have excelled with distinction in their respective civilian careers while exemplifying the Navy core values of Honor, Courage and Commitment. Navy veteran and entrepreneur John Paul DeJoria, Coast Guard veteran and Founder of J.D. Power & Associates, David Power, Navy veteran and founder of Alvarez & Associates, LLC, Everett Alvarez, and Marine Corps veteran and political satirist Mark Russell will be honored at the gala, joining an impressive list of men and women who have distinguished themselves by drawing upon their military experience.
