Myriam J. A. Chancy, author of the 2024 One Maryland One Book Selection What Storm, What Thunder, speaks in conversation with Haitian writers, scholars, and thinkers at  this Maryland Humanities event.  Chancy’s novel follows a cast of characters during the 2010 earthquake that struck Haiti.  The Haitian-Canadian-American author masterfully charts the inner lives of the characters affected by the disaster in scenes before, after, and during the earthquake. BALTIMORE – Kennedy Krieger Institute’s ROAR for Kids 5K road race and low-mileage fun walk encourages individuals of all ages to show off their wild side and team spirit. The family-friendly and accessible festivities will return to Oregon Ridge Park in Cockeysville, Md., on Saturday, April 29. 

Best-selling novelist, Julie Otsuka will deliver the keynote address, "An American Story: War, Memory and Erasure.” Free and open to the general public as well as the region’s academic communities, it will be followed by a book signing with her books available for purchase.

Fauré’s composition is noteworthy for its serene and peaceful mood. Unlike large-scale requiems by Verdi, Brahms, and others, Fauré’s work exudes a gentle stillness and ethereal spirituality. Fauré composed his Requiem following the death of his father, and his mother passed away shortly after it premiered, giving the work added poignancy.
