This September, Prostate Health International (PHI) will lead Philadelphia’s support of National Prostate Cancer Awareness Month. Screening is vital as prostate cancer shows no symptoms in its earliest stages. According to the American Cancer Society, prostate cancer is the second most commonly diagnosed form of cancer in men worldwide, behind only lung cancer. In the US, about 1 man in 6 will be diagnosed with prostate cancer during his lifetime. And, while the average age at time of diagnosis is 67, men with a family history of prostate cancer have a higher risk of diagnosis at a young age. For the past six years, Prostate Health International has urged the importance of screenings through this annual event.
The free screenings include a blood test for prostate specific antigen (PSA), testosterone and cholesterol, and a digital rectal exam.
Screening is recommended for ALL men age 35 years and older.
Registration is required.
