Best selection of beer, cool atmosphere

5

I've been to alewife on several occasions, mostly to sample some new delicious beers. They have an amazing list of brews and serve 'sampler flights' in different categories like "Belgians" "IPAs" and "Bartender's Choice". Recently I tried the smoke burger, and it was AMAZING. I'm not a big hamburger fan but this one was delicious and very unique. The duck fat fries that came with it were also interesting, and everyone raves over those. The cream of crab appetizer was excellent and had plenty of crab meat lumps in it. My only complaint is that they charge $2 for bread even when you order a soup. Definitely worth checking out though, if only for the really great decor and layout of the interior (high ceilings / balcony dining area, lots of dark wood accents).

Go for the beer!

A friend had reported back that he ate at Alewife and had THE BEST steak paired with red wine, that he has ever had. My husband (also a chef), immediately had to go. Between 3 people, we ordered the Wild Mushroom Risotto Cake (seemed a bit flavorless), Kobe Beef Hot Dog (definitely interesting), Shrimp Croquette (didn't taste much of the shrimp), and Mussels. Wasn't thrilled with the dishes, but our friends experience will keep us going back a 2nd time to try the steak.

The beer selection, however, is phenomenal! Would definitely go back if for nothing else but happy hour.

smoked burger --fire up the grill at Ale Wife!

The Smoked Burger -various meats-brisket, chuck, skirt steak, filet- ground in with smoked gouda and duck fat french fries was the absolute BEST burger I have ever had, but I would like to try the one in NYC with the fois gras to compare. This was AMAZING! The beer list --mostly craft-is loaded with goodies!

Terrific Gastro Experience in Baltimore

This is probably the best mix of good beer and fine food in Baltimore...at least that I am aware of! The owner's started their Gastro Pub concept in Cambridge, MASS with Lord Hobo and that place is awesome. I am so excited to see these guys in Baltimore. You can't go wrong with any of their 40 drafts and extensive bottle collection, paired with a wonderful menu courtesy of Chef Chad. Good people, good food and a great atmosphere. This place is a new force in the Baltimore area! You must visit here if in the Baltimore area!!!

Are you up for the mug challenge?

Great food, great beer selection, great staff. The new Mug Club is a hit with me as well! 75 drafts and 75 bottles will get you your own 23oz mug with you name on it to keep in the vault!
