A Peek at some news & moves in Maryland's Tourism Industry

Sometimes it is good to look up from our offices and peek out at where our fellow hospitality executives have been hiding or moving around. Here are a number of changes. Please share more news in comments below.

So look up tonight and see the newest Inner Harbor sign, PHILLIPS Seafood at Power Plant, all aglow in great anticipation for its Friday opening. Never fear, CITYPEEK will be hosting a party to ample and sip with your fellow hospitality execs in January 2012.

And since I am feeling crabby, it's official-OBRYCKI's crab house, a popular fixture in the Baltimore hospitality architecture since 1944, closed it's doors after service Saturday, November 5, 2011.

Kenneth Petty has joined The Wine Market as General Manager. Also, Chef Andrew Weinzirl was promoted from Sous Chef to Executive Chef of the Locust Point restaurant, wine bar and wine shop. (Kenneth, Chef Andrew, Patti seen left. Jerry Lazarus, photo credit.)

Marriott Inner Harbor Camden Yards Hotel's Chef Mitch Cooper has taken a position as Executive Chef of Marriott Frenchman's Reef in St. Thomas. Mitch, remember, my mom is coming to see you in February!

I am most excited for the grand opening of the Baltimore Four Seasons Hotel and its Michael Mina Tavern, WIT & WISDOM opened for breakfast, lunch and dinner. WIT & WISDOM  promises to focus on American classics prepared with Eastern Seaboard sensibilities. Diners may enjoy the display cooking area showcasing a live-fire grill and rotisseries, as well as classic Jeffersonian burners. More details  after my dining preview this weekend and final tour of the hotel. Both open on Friday for a Grand VIP Opening and business!

LAMILLE Coffee is located on the first floor of the Hotel, overlooking the water and is open for breakfast and lunch. The restaurant offers sweet specialties, such as freshly made New Orleans-style beignets with salted caramel dipping sauce, seasonal berry coffee cake or Michael Mina's classic toasted walnut chocolate-chip cookies.

In February 2012 expect another restaurant which will face the city's Inner Harbor from the first floor of the Hotel. Pabu is an updated Izakaya-style restaurant offering inspirational small plate, sushi and robata menus. Bamboo ceilings and beautifully crafted solid wood tabletops create an intimate yet energetic atmosphere.

Congratulations to Don Farley and Jennifer Marsh of Shamrock Media's, Baltimore City Paper.

After 25 years at the General Manager and then  Publisher's helm of Baltimore's CITY PAPER, Don and his wife, Maggie Mosley-Farley (Baltimore Jewish Times), son, Jessie and pooch, Joey have moved to Scranton, PA, as Don was promoted to regional general manager of three of its daily newspapers. Don started at Times-Shamrock, a Scranton-based media conglomerate, in 1983 and has held multiple positions including Baltimore.

Jennifer was promoted to PUBLISHER of Baltimore's City weekly. She tells me "I have been here 23 years (24 in January), first non-paid job was editorial intern (I wrote calendar picks), then paid position was Classified Line Supervisor, then Classified Display, Retail sales, Classified Manager, Advertising Director/General Sales Manager of our other papers and now PUBLISHER!" CITYPEEK Patti is so proud of you, Jenny!
