SPOONS of Federal Hill has been closed for a couple of weeks- why? To recreate its fabulous coffeehouse opened for breakfast and lunch 7 days a week into a dinner and wine bar destination. Dinner also will begin being served every Wednesday through Saturday. Dinner is expected to begin around October 5.
But, never fear, coffee will be back brewing soon. Cook, co-owner, Federal Hill native, Bernie might be seen handing out free pastries and coffee as early as Thursday am to show off his handmade new bar and restaurant renovation and expansion.
Co-owner, Debbie is cooking up some marvelous recipes along with Bernie and Chef A. Pauli Santi. Some presently softly executed are:
Small Plates like Scallops with risotto and fava beans ($9) and tuscan veal meatballs (polpetinnes)($7).
Pastas like: Farfalle with peas, proscutto, tomato, Fettucine Bolognese, Linguini with clams (all $14).
Mains: Pan Roasted Duck with figs ($21), Cornish game hen with risotto($17)and Hot Tuna Nicoise ($18).
A new SPOONS logo is in the works as well.

As it says on its website- Baltimore location- "coming Soon" and besides a sign in the window and many people bursting with excitement, I I can say it looks like Grilled Cheese & Co is opening in Federal Hill in the spot most recently occupied by Dangerously Delicious Pies at 1036 Light Street. Who doesn't love an oooey-gooey grilled cheese sandwich. Hurry over, winter is on its way! Proposed Hours are: Mon – Wed: 11am – 9pm Daily, Thurs - Sat: 11am - 2:30am Daily
Sun: 11:am - 8pm Daily.

Speaking of cheese-congratulations to Sharon Johnson for bringing a cheese shop back to Federal Hill. This food item, beloved by most, created mostly by bacteria and curdled milk has been one of life's missing treasures on the South side of Baltimore. But finally with the grand opening on CHEESE GALORE and MORE at the Cross Street Market-you can have a slice of many flavors to savor. Open Monday-Saturday.
13.5% Wine Bar of Hampden has opened a sibling spot at Silo Point called Silo.5%- It likes to call itself the Silo.5% is the "new cozy lounge and wine bar for the oenophiles of Baltimore."
Happy New Year to all those that celebrate ROSH HASHANAH!
