Rachel, a new restaurant from one of Baltimore’s hottest chefs, Barry Fleischmann, opened this week at 554 East Fort Avenue. A terrific addition to the neighborhood, the restaurant offers farm-to-table New American Cuisine. Rachel is operated by owner and Federal Hill resident, Barry Fleischmann and his seasoned management team including locally renowned chef, James Taylor and leading operations manager, Spencer Kent. Some might remember the tres chic Soigne, which was a successful upscale restaurant in same location, years ago. And, to answer the question, yes, there is free valet and off street parking during dinner hours.
Named after his daughter, Rachel menu offers seasonally influenced farm-to-table food for both its restaurant and catering services. Chef Fleischmann inspires to make Rachel integral to the neighborhood’s food and hospitality scene. “We welcome all of our neighbors and the entire Baltimore Metropolitan community, to join us for authentic, local cuisine. Come in, relax, eat, drink and let us feed your soul!” exclaims Chef Fleischmann.
I went in on their first night and was thrilled at the chopped salad with house cured, thick cut bacon. Yum! The dressing was perfect and tossed to perfection. It was large enough to share with my friend. The salad came split, muah.
We also tried the gravlox, also made in house. It came with crunchy toasted, bagette slices and dressed with a horseradish cream, capers and red onions. House made fish and meats will rotate often. Many specials are offered. Diners next to me had the panko crusted, bacon wrapped, runny egg withfive onion marmelade. It looked excellent, next time. Everything was beautifully plated and the staff brims with enthusiasm.
After many months of searching for the perfect location for his restaurant, Barry found a new home at 554 East Fort Avenue. Every inch of the building has been renovated with painstaking detail to offer customers a sophisticated dining experience while making guests feel the same degree of comfort afforded in one’s living room.
No stranger to serving excellent food, Fleischmann is the founder of one of Baltimore’s leading catering companies, Innovative Gourmet, and has been providing best-in-class food and hospitality for the past 30 years. He describes his menu as locally sourced Mid-Atlantic Chesapeake Bay cuisine, with offerings like roasted Cornish hen, seasoned beef medallions, house-cured smoked meats and salami, hand-crafted sandwiches and dinner salads.
The robust beverage program showcases craft beer, with a constant rotating draft menu, and fine wines, hand-selected by Chef Fleischmann. Rachel brings elite dining to the bustling South Baltimore Neighborhood of Federal Hill; offering a one-stop destination for the freshest locally sourced meals for all occasions from romantic dinners to private events.
