Thank you, Madame Mayor! Food Trucks can stay and feed the locals! Baltimore City announced good news at its Food Vendors Board for the placement of mobile food trucks in Baltimore City. The new policies created formally allow a Food Truck to vend from any valid parking location in Baltimore City. Of course, they are subject to parking rules too.
Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake tweeted today, "Update on food trucks, a unique extension of our diverse local restaurant industry..."
The City is creating five Pilot Food Truck Zones, which will operate from 9 AM to 3 PM
1) the 500 block of St. Paul Place and St. Paul St., on the east side of the street. (One space at each location for a total of 2 trucks)
2) The 1900 block of E. Monument St. on the south side of the street (One truck)
3) 500 block of W. Baltimore St. on the south side of the street. (One truck at this location.)
4) 300 block of S. Charles St. on the west side of the street. (One truck at this location.)
5) 500 block of E. Fayette on the north side of the street. (Three trucks at this location.) Still to come, a summer-long review by a Mayoral fellow, who will "review all statutes, rules, regulations, and fees currently related to ALL street vending.
Needless to say, the modern day restaurants on wheels are delighted. Souper Freaks tweets" Baltimore, Maryland Wow! Our Mayor is GREAT! True leadership was shown today. The Food Trucks are alive and better than ever per new policy. Thanks everyone!"
This is quite different for a New York City Sweetery NYC Truck who just tweeted " Once again we have been asked to leave our location by the NYPD, this time 50th St btw 6th & 7th Ave, very disappointing!"
