The Maryland Academy of Sciences, the parent organization of the Maryland Science Center, is Maryland's oldest scientific institution and one of the oldest such institutions in the entire nation. The Maryland Science Center at Baltimore's Inner Harbor is visited by more than 550,000 people each year. Popular exhibits include: Dinosaur Mysteries with more than a dozen full-size dinosaurs and interactive paleontology activities; an exploration of the day in the life of the human body in Your Body: The Inside Story; and dozens of interactive experiments in Newton's Alley. Other popular attractions in the museum include the Kids Room, the five-story St. John Properties IMAX Theater, and the world-famous Davis Planetarium. The Maryland Science Center is located at 601 Light Street at Baltimore's Inner Harbor.

Join wine and food experts from local restaurant the Wine Market for a night of taste explorations. February’s Science Uncorked is titled “Que Syrah, Shiraz.” Compare Syrah and other grape varietals grown in different parts of the world and discover how and why the wines differ. Participants will explore how climate and soil affect how wines taste and sip samples of wines to understand their taste differences.

Amateur sommeliers, wine novices, or anyone with verve for vino is invited to Science Uncorked: Wineology 101 hosted by the Maryland Science Center on Thursday, April 30 from 6:30 – 8:00 pm.
Experts from The Wine Market will lead an informal discussion on the science of wine and the roles color, scent and taste play in selecting our fermented favorites. Guests will learn about taste zones, clarity and bouquet while sampling a variety of wine and food pairings.
