Praised for its “friendly and fun” atmosphere, the Philadelphia Wind Symphony welcomes music lovers of all ages to its third performance on Tuesday, May 8 th at 7pm in Levitt Auditorium, at Gershman Hall, University of the Arts, 401 S. Broad Street in Center City Philadelphia. General admission is $10, or $5 for students and seniors with a valid ID. Admission is payable in cash at the door prior to the concert.

For its final performance of the season, the Philadelphia Wind Symphony presents a program of Visions. Featuring the music of heralded band composers Frank Ticheli, John Mackey, James Curnow, and Robert Russell Bennett, this program explores visions of day and night, good and evil, and of American pastimes, old and new. Joining the wind symphony for Ticheli’s Angels in the Architecture is University of the Arts soprano Calli Graver. The concert also features a side-by-side performance of James Curnow’s Fanfares and Flourishes 2, with students from the ground-breaking music education program Play On, Philly! Together this collaboration represents the realization of two visions for new approaches to celebrating and sharing music in Philadelphia.

Play On, Philly! (POP) is an innovative education and social initiative that provides opportunities for personal development to children through the study of music. Inspired by the social development and music education program of Venezuela, El Sistema, POP seeks to enrich the lives of Philadelphia youth by providing daily musical instruction in communities that have little access to music education.

Lead by Virginia Allen, the Philadelphia Wind Symphony is a volunteer ensemble of semi-professional players, music teachers, arts administrators, and music lovers. Their goal is to engage the community by bringing the best literature and performances of the band and wind ensemble tradition to Center City Philadelphia.
