BREAKFAST with Natan Shansky! What a thrill to go to the General Assembly of the Jewish Federations of North America www.ujc.org and be treated to breakfast with Natan Sharansky at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel in DC's Woodley Park.Natan Sharansky is the Israeli Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Construction and Housing with a past that would blow you away. Sharansky's DETAILS: Natan (Anatoly) Sharansky was born in the Ukraine, and graduated with a degree in mathematics from the Physical Technical Institute in Moscow. His early association with the human rights movement was an English interpreter for Andrei Sakharov, before emerging in his own right as a foremost dissident and spokesman for the Soviet Jewry movement.
In 1973, Sharansky applied for an exit visa to Israel, but was refused on “security” grounds. He remained prominently involved in Jewish refusenik activities until his arrest in 1977. Convicted in 1978 of treason and spying on behalf of the United States, Sharansky was sentenced to thirteen years imprisonment. He spent 16 months in Moscow's Lefortovo prison, frequently in solitary confinement and in a special “torture cell,” before being transferred to a notorious prison camp in the Siberian gulag.

Dining Companions
Hm, well, if we're talking about breakfast, the most 'historic' would be at the White House with the Nixon family in the East Room. I was 9, maybe 10, and with my family, very dressed up in lace, red velvet bow and French curls. Great O.J. The funniest was with Willard Scott at the Grand Floridian - what a nice man - and a table of radio folk, as we were down there for a press junket (it was a private breakfast, however).

Great day to dine
This past weekend I was able to sit down with Mr. Richard Naylor of Naylor Wine Cellars and chat for almost 3 hours over 3 bottles of wine! He shared some great stories of his travels around the world!

Coolest Dining Companions
I think the cool factor would be split among author Alex Haley, astronaut John Glenn, or Ronald Reagan (although I only snacked with Reagan so perhaps it doesn't count). Sharansky's story is amazing!
