National TRAVEL & HOTEL NEWS:
The Hilton Family of Hotels proudly announces its official sponsorship of the United States Olympic Team. Founder, Conrad N. Hilton, strongly believed that world peace could be achieved through international travel. The Olympic Movement strives to achieve the same through sport.
Two development groups have responded to the Baltimore Development Corp.’s and the Baltimore Office of Promotion & The Arts request for proposals on how to renovate or redevelop the Pier Six Concert Pavilion at Baltimore’s Inner Harbor. One proposal would move the tent-enclosed concert venue and replace it with residential units and retail space.
BACVA hires 2 OUT OF STATE COMPANIES for BRANDING and MARKETING CAMPAIGN. The Baltimore Area Convention and Visitors Association has hired two firms to conduct a branding campaign, ending an eight-month search for agencies that can give the city an identity that the association hopes will lure more tourists. Toronto firm Longwoods International to conduct market research on the travel habits of Baltimore's visitors while New York-based Landor Associates will develop a creative strategy for their branding campaign. $500,000 is expected to be spent in major drive feeder markets from the Baltimore area. The primary target audience will be the 30 million to 40 million business and leisure travelers who live within a four to five-hour drive of the city. In celebration of joining the Baltimore community, The Capital Grille has donated $5,000 to the Living Classrooms Foundation with money raised from wine sale proceeds during their pre-opening week. “As newcomers to the Baltimore dining scene, we are pleased to support an organization, like the Living Classrooms Foundation, that does so much for children in the local community,” said The Capital Grille’s Managing Partner Jim Kinney.
