Save the date and raise your glass! The Alzheimer’s Association will hold this new wine tasting event.
The evening will feature summer wines provided by Patrick Bouculat, owner of Wine Cellars of Annapolis, paired with hors d’oeuvres prepared by Chartwell’s gourmet chef.
Guests will be entertained by a live jazz duo, as well as silent and live auctions featuring artwork, bed and breakfast stays, custom jewelry, dining and entertainment packages and sports memorabilia.
An additional highlight will be a slide show presentation that celebrates and commemorates the lives of loved ones touched by Alzheimer’s disease. Guests are encouraged to provide pictures of their loved ones to be included in the presentation. Photos must be received by June 11: for arrangements, call Amanda Sciukas at 410-561-9099.
Bob Pascal’s St. Michael’s Harbour Inn, Marina & Spa is the presenting sponsor in memory of Bob DeStefano. Carl Tuerk, a partner at Cooper & Tuerk, LLP and an Alzheimer’s Association National Board member, is the event chair. The event committee comprises Anne Arundel County residents, several of whom have personal connections to Alzheimer’s disease.
Event proceeds will benefit the Alzheimer’s Association’s many programs and services, as well as raise awareness of Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders, which now affect more than 86,000 Marylanders.

Enjoyed the event
As winecharmer noted, the slideshow that played throughout the event was touching and appropriate. There was a decent sized crowd attending the affair. The appetizers passed about were decent--perhaps a little salty. I was also surprised at the low end wine selections for the tasting--ranging from $9.99 - $19.99, however I did enjoy each of the selections, particularly the Pinot Noir, and felt the Malbec was decent for the $10 price tag. Unfortunately, they were unable to sell bottles on the premises and the location of the store is a bit out of the way or else I would have placed an order.
The background music was appropriate and there was a good array of items available for auction. All in all an enjoyable and successful charity event!

Definitely a solid affair.
Definitely a solid affair. Throughout the evening, a photo slideshow played of loved ones lost to Alzheimers. It was touching and kept the theme at the fore. Chartwell Country Club is gorgeous; the room was excellent for the event. Once through with wine tasting, hit the generously-priced cash bar.
Food: hors d'oeuvres: phyllo & proscutto wrapped asparagus; gourmet ham & turkey sandwiches, duck wontons with hoisin sauce, & tons of deserts.
The wines, provided by Wine Cellars of Annapolis, were not as high end as expected for a $75/head ticket, but they were serviceable; my review is apparently too long to include the specifics!
Also live & silent auctions with some fabulous items up for bid, including two nights in an NYC apartment overlooking Central Park West + US open tickets, and a catered cockatil party. Everything sold & went for serious $$$$

wine charmer wants to win
Tickets
Why I should win:
1) My grandmother suffered through Alzheimer's for several years, so I know firsthand the pain the disease inflicts, both on the individual, and on the families that care for the afflicted.
2) I'm a wine lover and an active online wine reviewer/author; and a member of Marylanders for Better Beer & Wine Laws (testified before the Maryland House of Delegates this year on the bill)
3) I'm a semi-syndicated journalist (ok, mostly sports writing!) for an online publication (bleacherreport.com)
and
4) I would shamelessly hand out CityPeek business cards throughout the event.

Fabulous
This sounds like a fantastic event with a great cause. I love jazz, wine, artwork, and auctions, and for a time kept a wine blog going.
