CITYPEEK Remembers 9-11-2001

We Will Never Forget-We will Always be Proud of America-We will Support Our Troops-G-d Bless America.

An anonymous man walks through the city adding quarters to expired parking meters. A florist sends roses to thousands of hospital patients. A humanitarian team builds a new school in war-torn Afghanistan. These seemingly random acts of kindness are linked by a common thread. Each occurred on last year's Sept. 11, and they are examples of how a day of horrific tragedy nine years ago has taken on new meaning in America.

I remember EXACTLY where I

I remember EXACTLY where I was when I heard that the first tower had been hit. I was in college and we had a break in the middle of lecture. A classmate told me what had happened, I thought she was kidding at first. So we all went back to class only to come out of class having heard that the second tower had been hit. I'm sorry we didn't take it as seriously right when we initially had heard the news. My professor later appologized to us for not calling off the lecture, because people calling their loved ones in retrospect, was far more important than anything we could've learned in lecture.

9/11

I will never forget - screaming at my hubby, who was in-line boarding a flight home from Chicago, not to get on the plane. Once the second plane hit the Towers, I had a feeling it was no accident. Luckily, he got the last rental car as they were grounding all flights across the country and drove straight home, where we sat glued to the TV for what seemed like a month!
